"Growth" vs. "Fixed Minds" podcast

This podcast discusses two different mind frames. The mind frames are growth versus fixed. The first mind frame discussed in this podcast was the fixed mind frame. People who have a fixed mind frame believe that intelligence is a fixed trait. People with this mind frame base activities on if they are going to look smart. Students with this mind frame believe intelligence is something that they can develop by studying or by obtaining an education.

The second mind frame, which was discussed, in this podcast was the growth mind frame. People who have the growth mind frame believe that the brain is a muscle and it gets stronger with use. They also believe that every time they learn something new, the brain connects new ideas. The growth mind frame allows people to grow in their skills, admit mistakes and correct them. This podcast shows that you cannot keep up with skills if you do not allow yourself to grow and learn.

This podcast described the growth mind frame ‘as the students being curious to learn’ and the fixed mind frame ‘as wanting to feel smart’. I believe that the student’s mind frames affect teachers because you want your students to be curious to learn. As a teacher, I will encourage my students to have the growth mind frame. It will be my responsibility to challenge and motivate my students to achieve their greatest potential.
